Gambling as a way of life

Gambling is a way of life to some; a way of life to have fun. Many people consider gambling a form of relaxation but while they're relaxing, they could either win or lose. If they lose, it's no big to deal them - since they were primarily interested to have fun than to win the game. If they win, then it would be a bonus.

While gambling can be a hobby for some people, sometimes gambling can even be a profession. There are people who earn their livelihood from gambling. Though loses are at stake, money and fun could be the primary motivator why people resort to gambling to earn money.

There are many kinds of gambling activities. They could range from playing poker, slots, lottery, bingo, and so on and so forth. Why, even TV variety shows attract viewers to join their games of luck where they guess the winning prize from an array of boxes or behind curtains which are randomly hidden with money or prizes.

Gambling is practiced both by high and low-income groups alike. The socialites can afford to place higher bets which could sometimes amount to giving up their properties and assets while the poor can easily give up a day's salary when gambling.

People choose to gamble their money in the hope that they will win against their opponents or if by luck, their numbers will be chosen in a lottery. A lottery ticket may only cost a fraction of a day's wage and the bettor may choose to spend his money on buying lottery tickets where a fractional budget is all they can afford. All of this is in the hope of hitting their chosen numbers and beating the odds on their way to fame and fortune.

If there is a study to be conducted on the psychological effects of gambling, psychologists could probably agree that this activity could be looked at as therapy. As a way to beat boredom and experience an adrenaline rush challenging the odds and taking a chance.

But while it can be therapy it can also be addictive. Although gambling is not a stressful activity, it does of course involve risk. Gambling is a game of luck. The likelihood of winning a gamble is all about odds; sometimes 1 out 10, sometimes 1 out of million.

If a player wins for the first time, it is likely that they will gamble again to try their luck and this would go on like a vicious cycle. It is for this reason that people who are addicted to gambling are sometimes treated in rehabilitation centers like alcoholics and drug addicts.
